•Text transmission and editing in 15th-century Iran under the Timurid Prince Baysunghur•
Comparative study of the textual content in the Persian manuscripts produced at the library of Prince Baysunghur (1397-1433) in Herat demonstrates that each text was principally a new edition. A board of literati and cultivated characters decided on the base texts and methodology of the new editions prepared at the command of the prince. This paper investigates various approaches to text editing under Prince Baysunghur. It also discusses the role and influence of the chief librarian Jaʿfar Tabrizi in treating the literary editions and in composing new history books.
