Researchers identify first death linked to meat allergy caused by ticks

Описание: University of Virginia researchers identified the first deadly case of Alpha-gal, the meat allergy linked to tick bites.

This follows the unexpected death of a New Jersey man after he ate a hamburger last summer.


The man who passed had two severe allergic reactions to red meat after being bitten by a dozen Lone Star Tick larvae. The second allergic reaction was fatal.

At the time, neither his family nor the medical examiner knew the cause.
