The M40 Motorway - the "London to Birmingham Motorway" runs for 89 miles (143km) from Uxbridge, just inside the M25, to the M42 motorway near Birmingham, via High Wycombe, Oxford, Banbury and Warwick, running through the Chilterns and Cherwell Valley.
The section from London to Oxford was opened in stages between 1967 and 1974. The completion of the motorway to the M42 near Birmingham was in 1991.
This video shows a north-westbound journey along the M40, from Junction 8 for the A40 towards Oxford, and Junction 8a for the A418 and Oxford Services, to Junction 9 for the A34 and A41 at Bicester.
