Sahn phra phum (ศาลพระภูมิ) is the Thai name for a kind of spirit house with one leg, that houses the so-called jawed (เจว็ด), a Hindu household god that protects lands and homes, or a here in Phitsanulok (พิษณุโลก)'s Nakhon Thai (นครไทย) District, the Hindu god Brahma (ब्रह्मा), the Puranic creator god, who is one of the three prominent gods of the Trimurti (त्रिमूर्ति - ตรีมูรติ), the Hindu pantheon, together with Shiva (शिव), the destroyer, and Vishnu (विष्णु), the preserver, and whom is often described as the director of the Universe and the balance between the opposing forces of Vishnu and Shiva. The Sahn phra phum is typically erected adjacent to the sahn chao thih (ศาลเจ้าที่), also transliterated sahn chao tih, sahn jao thee, saan chao thih, or similar, and which is a kind of spirit house with four, or occasionally six legs, that houses the chao thih (เจ้าที่), the animist guardian spirit of the land, here housing the ancestor spirits Tah (ตา) and Yai (ยาย), i.e. ‘Maternal Grandfather’ and ‘Maternal Grandmother’. Tables for offerings are put up in front of the spirit houses, whilst on each corner around the shrine is a decorative lantern in the form of a Kinnari (กินรี), i.e. a mythical creature with a human torso and head, and the wings and legs of a bird.
