Описание: Marunthuvaazh malai is in Pothayadi on the way to Kanyakumari from Nagercoil. It is a small hill with a Hanuman temple on the hill, with the followers of Saint Shri Narayana Guru visiting the temple.

Marunthuvazh Malai forms the southernmost tip of the Western Ghats and is about 11 kilometers from Nagercoil and 7 kilometers from Kanyakumari. It stretches for more than a km, reaching a height of 800 feet at the highest point.

It was believed Lord Hanuman dropped a piece of earth as he was carrying a mountain with a life-saving herb, Sanjivani, from the Himalayas to Sri Lanka during the Rama-Ravana war. This chunk of earth is called Marunthuvazh Malai, which is literally translated to "hills where medicine lives".

This hill is also believed to be noted in Ayyaavazhi mythology as Parvatha Ucchi Malai. Apart from the Mythology, this hill is historically related to the life of Vaikundar. So a few theologians consider this
hill as sacred and consider it one among the Ayyaavazhi holy sites. Backing some quotes from Arul
Nool and Akilam some even argue that Marundhuvaazh Malai is one among
the Vaikundapathi's.

THE SACRED ‘PILLATHADAM’ CAVE IN MARUTHWAMALA
Narayana Guru attained enlightenment while undergoing penance (tapas) and meditation in ‘Pillathadam’ cave on the top of Maruthwamala in the search of ‘Ultimate Wisdom’.

If one wish to undertake a trek near Kanyakumar then, Marunthuvazh Malai (which also has abundance of unique native medicinal plants) is a treat for the trekker.

View on the top off the hill is awesome. since there is no stalls, shops, one has to carry own drinking water, and refreshments.
