A state-wide strike called by pro-Kannada groups in Karnataka disrupted normal life in the state.
The strike was triggered by the Supreme Court’s judgement on the Cauvery water sharing crisis that has sparked tensions between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
In an interim order, the apex court on Monday had asked the Karnataka government to release 15,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu over a period of ten days.
The ripples of the SC’s directive travelled across the water-starved state, culminating in a massive protest that has placed the distraught farmer at the centre stage.
