Sugar itself doesn’t directly cause diabetes in the conventional sense, even though it’s often blamed for the condition. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system attacks insulin-producing cells, unrelated to sugar intake. Type 2 diabetes, on the other hand, develops when the body becomes resistant to insulin or can’t use it effectively—something influenced by a combination of genetics, lifestyle, and metabolic factors, not sugar alone. However, consuming large amounts of added sugar can contribute to weight gain, especially when paired with a sedentary lifestyle. Excess body fat, particularly around the abdomen, increases insulin resistance, which in turn raises the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. So while sugar is not the central cause of diabetes, consistently high sugar intake can play an indirect role by promoting weight gain and poor metabolic health. Moderation, therefore, is key—both for maintaining a healthy weight and reducing long-term risk. #diabetes #health #hormones
