This video shows how to get the DK-Coin in Rickety Race in Donkey Kong Country 2 for the GBA.
I found myself dying a lot when I was trying to get the Coin, as the patterns of the racers can be a bit tricky.
The input display should be helpful for this.
Also, this method includes skipping the midway-barrel. If you touch it, and die after it before getting the DK-Coin, you start over from that barrel which makes it impossible to get the DK-Coin. By jumping over said barrel you make sure to always start over from the beginning.
