The Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway was one of five two-foot narrow gauge railroads in the State of Maine. It originally operated from 1895 until 1933. During its peak, it stretched from Wiscasset to Albion and Winslow. Although the system once traveled fifty-eight miles, it never reached Waterville nor Farmington. Despite ceasing operations in 1933, the railroad was never officially declared abandoned. In 1989, it officially returned as the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum.
Today, 3.5 miles of the historic route operates as a non-profit heritage railroad that is run entirely by volunteers. Trains currently travel from Sheepscot Station, just under five miles north of Wiscasset, to the Troutbrook runaround and turntable.
No. 9, an 1891 built Forney type, leads a short freight during the day, including scenes doubling the hill to Top of the Mountain, before taking the entire train to Alna Center, and continuing with a new consist into the night.
The WW&F hosted our September 2024 photo charter for a small group of photographers and cinematographers. Special thanks to Ben Bourrie for assisting our staff in event planning and prep, as well as the volunteers and staff of the WW&F Railway, and the events attendees for making yet another successful Dynamo Productions photo charter possible.
