Record-high budget allocations, a massive rollout of rooftop solar under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, and dedicated efforts to strengthen the Green Energy Corridor – all of these signal a strong government push toward renewable energy expansion.The latest reports of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy reveals that over 50 lakh applications have been submitted under the rooftop solar scheme, and more than 12 lakh households are now harnessing the sun to power their homes. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has streamlined vendor registration, boosted public outreach in local languages, and launched creative campaigns like ‘Run for Sun’ to bring clean energy into public consciousness.Rural India, too, is part of this green shift — with solar pumps and biogas plants being promoted under the revamped PM-KUSUM and Bioenergy programmes. However, there are several concerns that the parliamentary panel has flagged relating to underutilization of funds, slow execution and missed targets.
