In this video I present the essentials of quantum mechanics required to understand quantum computation. The target audience is anyone who has:
(1) A basic working knowledge of probability theory
(2) A good understanding of linear algebra, particularly, vector spaces, eigenvalues/eigenvectors, matrix diagonalisation.
I describe quantum mechanics starting via a set of postulates which will allow you to rapidly get up to speed with the language practitioners actually use, especially in quantum information theory. In particular, emphasis is placed on states as density matrices, and not as rays in Hilbert space. Ket notation is not covered in this video (that will come later).
