Bobby Berk Makes Space for What Matters on New HGTV show “Junk or Jackpot?”

Описание: Emmy award winner and GLAAD Ambassador Bobby Berk returns to our living rooms on his new HGTV show, “Junk or Jackpot?”, where he helps unique collectors transform their cluttered homes by deciding whether their precious items are worthy or worthless!

To talk about the new show and what to do when prized collections turn home life into chaos, Bobby Berk joined GLAAD Vice President of Communications and Talent, Anthony Allen Ramos for a chat!

Each episode, Berk takes us into guests homes to hear stories behind their collections, brings in experts to appraise the items and then counsels his clients on what they’ll sell to fund the much-needed makeovers. “As you know, my history with design on TV, it’s really about helping people and showing people how design can transform their lives, especially when things have taken control of their life, and that’s what this show is about.” Bobby shared.

In the series premiere, the interior design expert visits their first guest Patrick’s condo which is overwhelmed by his massive collection of marionettes, puppets, figurines and pinball machines so much that it’s started to affect not only his living space but his relationship with Roger, his partner that moved out because of the chaos.

Bobby jokes, “We always say our job is 50% design, 50% marriage counseling. Renovations build out a lot of stress onto people’s relationships, I’m kind of used to it. I think when it starts impacting your space or your relationships, if you can’t function in a space, it’s out of control. I really wanted to tackle a show that uses design as a way to help people, both physically and mentally.”

Viewers who first connected with Berk on Queer Eye know him not just as a designer, but as a queer man whose empathy and emotional connection were central to his role. This background informs his commitment to representation, as Berk shared, “It wasn’t until Queer Eye for the Straight Guy that I finally saw queer representation that looked like me. It really showed me that I could be an openly gay, proud man and still be successful and still be loved and still be accepted. Therefore, fighting for true, honest representation of our community in film and television is super important because if we don’t, who will?”

With “Junk or Jackpot?”, Berk continues this focus on transformation, proving that letting go can be as impactful as a fresh coat of paint and that authenticity remains his greatest design tool.
