Theodor Oesten (1813–1870) – German composer, pianist and teacher based in Berlin. He was one of the most popular authors of salon music of the mid-19th century and is particularly famous for his lyrical and easily accessible piano miniatures, which became widely used in home music making. He wrote hundreds of compositions appreciated for their melodic appeal and pedagogical usefulness; among the best known is “Dolly’s Dreaming and Awakening”, one of the most played piano pieces of his time.
