Greater Anglia and London Overground Trains at Cheshunt on July 28th 2021

Описание: 2nd visit to Cheshunt station on the West Anglia Main Line as well as the terminus of services on the Lea Valley Lines via Seven Sisters and 1st visit since April 2019 featuring services from Greater Anglia and London Overground

Cheshunt station opened in 1846 which was 6 years after the line from Stratford to Broxbourne first opened by then Northern & Eastern Railway.

Electrification from Hackney Downs to Bishops Stortford and Hertford East via Seven Sisters was completed in 1960 although the line south via Tottenham Hale wasn't completed until 1969 which Class 121 Diesels were only able to provide that service in that time.

Between December 2005 and August 2006 the station was rebuilt which enabled the bay platform to be extended to accomodate 8 cars sets instead of just 6 cars.

In 2012 during the Olympic Games both Cheshunt and the next station south at Waltham Cross were the main stations for the Broxbourne whitewater Canoe and Salom event eventhough Broxbourne is in fact the next station north.

Oyster card Pay as you go was extended to here in 2013 which at present the furthest it can be used on the West Anglia Main Line is Broxbourne as well as the Hertford East Branch Line itself to Hertford East.

Platforms 1 and 2 used by Greater Anglia services to and from Cambridge North, Hertford East and Bishops Stortford whilst Platform 3 eventhough it's designated as Bay Platform is used by terminating London Overground services via Seven Sisters which took over operation of the Lea Valley Lines in May 2015.

The Class 710s nowadays occupy all Lea Valley Line services, Gospel Oak to Barking or the GOBLIN Line and the Watford DC Lines from London Euston to Watford Junction via Watford High Street and even occasionally run on the North London Line to and from Stratford. The 710s gradually replaced the Class 315s and some of the Class 317s.

At the time of filming the Class 317s were in their last months of operation they along with the Class 379s are being replaced by Class 720s originally built by Bombardier however since Janaury 2021 nowadays maintained by Alstom in a merged takeover deal.

The Class 720s which all 133 sets will be 5 car sets each with 89 720/5s and 44 720/1s eventhough originally the 720/1s were planned to be 10 car sets however was changed in October 2020 by Greater Anglia to 5 cars to enable flexibility.

The Class 379s been around since 2011 on Stansted Express at present operate to Hertford East, Bishops Stortford and Cambridge North with the new Class 745/1s taken over operation of Stansted Express services and although similar built to the 745/0s on Norwich services however one difference is that the 745/1s are standard class only.

Despite the age of the Class 379s being still young however their future after Greater Anglia is still unknown although due to be cascaded to other parts of the rail network however that won't be likely until sometime before the Summer of 2022 when the full fleet replacement on Greater Anglia is due to be completed.
