Unannounced Search Operation at Pollsmoor led by National Commissioner Thobakgale

Описание: On 04 April 2026, the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) National Commissioner, Mr Makgothi Thobakgale, led an unannounced Easter weekend search operation at Pollsmoor Correctional Centre in Cape Town.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to eradicate contraband and reinforce safety, security, and discipline within correctional facilities — particularly during high-risk periods.

Conducted in collaboration with the DCS Emergency Support Team (EST) and the South African Police Service (SAPS), the search has already led to the discovery of prohibited items, including cellphones, drugs, and sharp objects.

This initiative demonstrates the Department’s zero-tolerance approach to contraband and its commitment to ensuring secure and well-managed correctional environments.
