Several Indians, including students, returned to New Delhi on commercial flights from Iran amid nationwide protests and a violent crackdown. Flights arrived on January 16 as internet shutdowns hampered communication. The External Affairs Ministry said around 9,000 Indians remain in Iran and has issued advisories urging citizens to avoid travel and leave using available flights.
