‘সেকালের দারোগার কাহিনী’ তে ‘সেকাল’ বলতে বোঝানো হয়েছে উনিশ শতকের ষাটের দশক কে। গিরীশ চন্দ্র বসু 1853 থেকে 1860 সাল পর্যন্ত কৃষ্ণনগর, নবদ্বীপ, শান্তিপুর এইসব অঞ্চলের পুলিশের দারোগা ছিলেন । এই সময়কার অভিজ্ঞতার বর্ণনা তার লেখায় ফুটে উঠেছে। এই সময়েও পল্লীগ্রাম গুলিতে রীতিমতো নিয়মিত ডাকাতি হত। ডাকাতদের অত্যাচারে সাধারণ মানুষের জীবন দুর্বিষহ হয়ে উঠেছিল এরকমই একজন ডাকাত ছিল মনোহর ঘোষ নামে এক কুখ্যাত ডাকাত।

গিরীশ চন্দ্র বসু্র কাহিনী দারোগার দপ্তর খ্যাত দারোগা প্রিয়নাথ এর কিছু আগের কাহিনী। গিরিশচন্দ্র পুলিশের দারোগার কাজে যোগদান 1853 খ্রিস্টাব্দে।

সেকালের দারোগার কাহিনী অক্ষয়চন্দ্র সরকার সম্পাদিত নবজীবন মাসিকপত্রে ধারাবাহিকভাবে প্রথম প্রকাশিত হয় শ্রাবণ 1293 অর্থাৎ 1888 সালে। এই কাহিনীর ভূমিকা এবং প্রথম দুটি অংশকে নিয়ে একত্রিত করে আমাদের গল্প নবদ্বীপের মনোহর ডাকাত ।

গল্পটি অডিও ষ্টোরি আকারে প্রকাশের জন্য কিছু অংশ সংক্ষিপ্ত করা হয়েছে এবং কিছু অংশকে একটু আগে পরে করতে হয়েছে এবং কিছু স্থানে সাধু ভাষার পরিবর্তে চলিত ভাষা ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে। এছারা বিভিন্ন চরিত্রের মুখের কথা গুলি তাদের নিজের জবানীতে আনা হয়েছে।

In the story of the ‘Sekaler Daroga’ , ‘Sekal’ means the sixties of the nineteenth century. Girish Chandra Bose was the police inspector of Krishnanagar, Navadwip and Shantipur from 1853 to 1860. The description of the experience of this period is revealed in his writings. Even at this time there were regular robberies in the villages. Manohar Ghosh or the infamous robber was one such robber. The life of the common people became miserable due to the tyranny of the robbers.

His story was published long before Daroga Priyanath's story which was known as Darogar Daftar. Girish Chandra joined the police force in 1853.

The story was first published serially in Navajivan monthly edited by Akshay Chandra Sarkar in Shravan 1293 i.e. 1888 A.D. Our story combines the prelim of this story and the first two parts and named as ‘ Nabadwiper Manohar Dakat’. Some parts have been shortened to make the story available in the form of audio stories and some parts have had to be done a little earlier. In some places colloquial language has been used instead of sadhu language.
