This video is also subtitled in Hindi and captioned in Tibetan. Alchi monastery is a world-known monument on account of being the oldest one. The monastery has collection of exquisite 10th Century murals that are next to the Ajanta Caves. Most videos in public domain somehow lack description and religious importance of the treasure of sculptures inside. In this video I gave a very scientific account of the artwork. The monastery has also a tradition of developing different mandala art forms for meditation purpose. The woodwork and paintings display influence of Kashmiri Shaiva tradition. Situated on the banks of river Indus the view of village is breathtaking. Eateries and home-stays are available for night stay.
