This roundtable focuses on how media research and social justice intersect. It will explore how media representations of marginalised identities impact the production, perception and criticism of media content. How can media researchers account for these factors? How can they further decolonise research and accommodate marginalised perspectives, such as those from the Global South? How can they deconstruct their own positionality in relation to the communities they study? More generally, how can media researchers symbiotically involve the communities they study, such as by applying participatory research methods, public engagement and knowledge exchange? Our speakers will be Prof. Srivi Ramasubramanian (Syracuse University, USA; www.drsrivi.com), Prof. Beth Haller (Towson University, USA) and Dr. Wyatt Moss-Wellington (University of New England, Australia).
