We head west to Oxenholme Lake District via Carlisle for a freight packed day of trainspotting. We saw lots of freight and got some huge horn blasts from all sorts of trains.
We started in Seaton Delaval catching a train into Newcastle where we just got there in time to see a beautiful Colas Rail Class 70 departing from platform 2. Daddy's favourite LNER Azuma livery, Our Planet was also there providing Tommy an opportunity to practice his photography skills.
We jumped onto another Northern and headed across the Tyne Valley Line to Carlisle. Carlisle is a fantastic station for freight and it didn't disappoint on this occasion. The highlight was when another Class 70 brought a load of timber through which looks amazing but also smells beautiful.
We had a quick lunch before heading to Oxenholme Lake District for the first time. The visuals on the way there and once you are there are stunning. We must return and catch the Northern train to Windermere at some point.
We headed into Oxenholme village and found a playground with fantastic views of the West Coast Mainline as well as a speed camera that could record our speeds as we ran past. Amazingly, Tommy ran as fast as Daddy and even more shocking was the fact that Mammy ran 2mph faster!! Unfortunately, her effort wasn't caught on camera.
We saw one more freight at Oxenholme before heading back to Carlisle and then onto Newcastle. Just as we started winding down, we got one of the best horn blasts we've ever had from a Northern driver before one of Tommy's favourite livery trains arrived, Trans Pennine Express's Unity
