The patient injects himself in the penis with a tiny needle to obtain an erection every time they want to have sex. This is very effective and safe if done as prescribed. The biggest downside is that many men find it awkward or uncomfortable to have to inject themselves in the penis every time they want to have sex. However, many men are happy with this option, and it is definitely something to consider before undergoing a penile prosthesis.
