In this episode, Marc Boom, M.D., 2026 chair of the AHA Board of Trustees, talks with Mark Boucot, president and CEO of Potomac Valley Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital that’s part of WVU Medicine. Potomac Valley Hospital is the recipient of the inaugural AHA Rural Hospital Excellence in Innovation Award, presented at the 2026 AHA Rural Health Care Leadership Conference.
Boom and Boucot discuss how Potomac Valley Hospital is developing innovative ways to expand access to local care for patients. Boucot describes the hospital’s virtual ICU, which provides full access to lifesaving care within the PVH facility and the patient’s home community. He also shares what makes him optimistic for the future of health care.
