G'day everyone,
It may be surprising to learn that after tooling and material costs, endmills are probably the biggest expense in running a small hobby shop. This is partly down to me buying a lot of my cutters from Australian, Taiwanese and Japanese brands, but also because endmills are naturally expensive tools to make. Complex geometry that needs to be cut and ground.
It also does not help that any damage cannot be repaired, they are easy to damage and because of their design, they wear unevenly.
Because of these factors I have several strategies in place to minimize costs, prevent wear and make use of broken endmills. These are rules that I have picked up over the past 10 years (ever since I had to pay for my own endmills) and I hope that you can learn a tip or two that you weren't previously aware of.
I hope you enjoy the video.
