You really don't need anything special to overwinter your newly rooted cuttings. You just need to adhere to some basic principles such as protecting the roots from frost and you're ready to go for the winter.
Hard fast frosts early on in the fall are very damaging to rooted cuttings and one of the best ways to protect against this is to just plant them right into the ground. That's exactly what we're doing with these rooted hydrangea cuttings, just planting them right in the ground.
The ground holds a more stable temperature. It will still freeze hard as a rock but the temps won't fluctuate as quickly as they do in the ambient air.
