Great Western Railway Trains at Swindon on June 15th 2019

Описание: 1st time filming at Swindon in Wiltshire on the Great Western Main Line and the junction for the Golden Valley Line via Stroud to Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa and also the South Wales Main Line.

Featuring Class 800 and 802 IETs except 802/1s and 2 appearances of a Class 165 Turbo as well including services to Bristol Temple Meads via Chippenham and South Wales as well as Cheltenham Spa.

Swindon opened in 1842 as Swindon Junction which between opening until 1895 Steam Locomotives would stop for up to 10 minutes in the platforms and was once a 3 storey station.

Another station called Swindon Town opened in 1881 by the Midland and South Western Junction Railway. However after World War II traffic declined and was ultimately closed to passengers in 1961 the same time when Swindon Junction became Swindon before closing completely in 1972. At the same time the original 3 storey station of Swindon was demolished.

Originally had 3 platforms with Platforms 1 and 3 used by through trains with Platform 2 which today acts as the bay for terminating DMU services from Cheltenham Spa or Westbury. Platform 4 opened in 2003.

Cheltenham Spa services nowadays use Platforms 1 and 3 with that along with Platform 4 being bi-directional.

The Class 800 and 802 IETs now occupy the long distance services on Great Western Railway with the first 800s introduced in October 2016 and the 802s introduced in August 2018 and gradually taking over the Class 43 HSTs which having operated on the GWML since October 1976 with the final sets displaced on Saturday May 18th 2019 although 11 are being maintained for use as 2+4 sets known as Castle HSTs.

The 800s and 802s may look identical on the outside and inside interior however the difference is the bio-mode systems especially the steep inclines on the South Devon Main Line towards Plymouth and beyond down to Penzance with the 800/0s (5 car) and 800/3 (9 car) being 750hp whilst the 802/0s (5 car) and 802/1s (9 car) have 940hp although the 800s were built by Hitachi in Japan however the 802s due the overruns of the electrification of the GWML were built at Hitachi's plant in Pistoia, Italy which at the time of filming was still ongoing between Bristol Parkway and Cardiff Central having been controversially scaled back from Swansea in July 2017.

The only other electrified section is between Reading and Newbury.
