🇬🇷 Tiryns & Lerna (Myloi), Peloponnese Greece. Hercules and The Origins of Greek Mythology.

Описание: Tiryns and Lerna were Greek Mycenaean settlements close to Nafplio and about 90 minutes drive from Athens.

Tiryns is an Acropolis dating from 1600 BC and the supposed home of the mythical Hercules, or Heracles, Lerna is much older, having buildings dating from as early as 2700 Bc, and the legendary 'House of Tiles'.

Both are wrapped up in Greek mythology, and the origins of Greek Mythology, being associated with the 12 labours of Hercules, the Lernaean Hydra, Namean Lion and Arcadian Deer. Theseus was born in nearby Argos before founding Athens (and killing the Minotaur), Whilst Perseus, who was also from Argos slew the Medusa and founded Mycenae.

Perseus was also the grandfather of Hercules...

Dramatically effected by the eruption of Santorini in about 1620 Bc resulting in the destruction of the competing Minoan civilisation on the Island of Crete, both Tiryns and Lerna are integral to Mycenaean culture, the development of the 12 Greek Gods of Olympus and Greek and hence modern European culture.

Often overlooked they are incredibly important sites if interested in Mycenaean and Hellenic Greek History and amazing to visit, being only 10 minutes from Nafplio, and close to Mycenae, Corinth an Epidaurus.
