On 30 June 2024, Channel 4's portfolio of music channels are all set to close.
The downfall all began in 2019 when Channel 4 gained full ownership of Box Plus Network by acquiring Bauer's 50% stake, within 6 months Box Plus Network had become fully integrated with Channel 4.
Then in 2024 due to ongoing budget cuts from Channel 4, their portfolio of music channels have been axed. The Box the longest running music channel ceases broadcasting after 32 years, Kiss ceases broadcasting after 24 years (Kiss TV actually launched in 2000 as a fully fledged music channel NOT 1998), Magic and Kerrang closes after 23 years and 4Music for 22 years (if you count its history with The Hits launching 6 years earlier).
Whilst it is sad to see this portfolio of music channels close its doors on TV, the radio counterparts still exist, most of its content over the years was essentially wall-to-wall music videos with fewer live content/concerts it would've benefited by becoming a FAST channel online as opposed to staying on TV.
As of 1 July, 2024 ALL of the Box Pljus Network Channels have closed down after more than 20 years
