2019 Range Rover Evoque - Real World Review

Описание: Hey Guys, we picked up the 2019 RR Evoque D180 HSE a week ago and have been using it pretty constantly. Plenty enough time to appreciate its comforts and real world practicality. I like the car, such a comfortable means of everyday transport while cosseting you in all conditions. Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to take the car off-road, actually banned from doing so, but easy to see with the terrain response controls that this car would perform admirably in these type of conditions.

On balance it is the styling I think that grabs your attention because this is a great looking car. The lines are smoother and more grown up than the previous model whilst simultaneously looking modern. The size of the car is ideal providing space for the family whilst small enough to feel nimble, (ish), in the cities. Both a his and hers car! This is truly a luxury car with an up-market interior, demonstrated by a premium design inside boasting quality materials and the latest technology with top end Evoques boasting a three-screen infotainment system.

There is also more room inside than the previous model which JLR have achieved by lengthening the wheelbase, without affecting the overall length, and made room for new hybrid batteries. New Evoques get a 48-volt mild hybrid system and in 2020 a full plug-in hybrid will arrive equipped with a smaller three-cylinder engine and electrical motor.

Having read through previous tests I concur that this is not an overly sporty car but it handles crisply with little noticeable body roll, has a fine ride and is easy to place accurately. Very little noise makes its way into the cabin, the extra strength and isolation over the old car combining to showcase the new suspension system combined with the longer wheelbase. Tyre noise is kept to a minimum and because it’s a Land Rover, and off road capability is actually important here, the Evoque can wade up-to 60cm in depth. Most models are permanent 4WD. The diesels on offer are the D150, D180 and D240; and petrols versions are P200, P250 and P300.

Our car here is the D180 in HSE guise offering180hp from it's 2 liter engine. It is fast enough and quiet to drive, overall an excellent place to be especially for longer journeys. A nine-speed auto box is standard on all but the bottom 2WD version and is mostly smooth and reactive. However having nine gears means it is quite often hunting for the next appropriate gear which can be annoying especially when driving in traffic. The eight-speed box in our X3 is better in this respect.

A Range Rover’s driving position is meant to be commanding, and you certainly do sit higher in the Evoque than comparable cars though perhaps not Ranger Rover Sport high. The seats however are extremely supportive so long journeys are a pleasure especially if in the front. It is the back seats that demand compromise but I suspect they would still be comfortable enough for six footers to manage a decent length journey.

The Range starts at £31,600 for the 150bhp diesel and all other versions have four-wheel drive, auto transmission and the mild hybrid system where if specced highly you may find yourself spending close to 50,000 pounds but even here this is not overly expensive for a car from a luxury manufacturer and the technology on offer is up there with luxury machines costing a fair amount more..

All in all a class act and although I would personally choose the Range Rover Velar because its driving characteristics better reflect my own driving style, if you do want a smaller car, that does 90% of what the Velar can offer for considerably less cash, then I would have no hesitation in recommending the this Evoque
