It is spring time in Yunnan and our journey today takes us to Maoye. This relatively young business is the epitome of China’s emerging, yet vibrant tropical plant industry. Maoye pride themselves in breeding Tillandsia, Anthurium, and an esteemed international plant broker - Importing and exporting exquisite exotics in and out of China.
In episode one, I ask Huaren the origin story of his business, his insights of the Chinese plant industry, and why they have an upper hand in their tillandsia breeding program. And then, we look at some amazing tillandsias at the nursery.
In the next episode, we explore their Anthurium collection and breeding program.
While our social medias are not connected with China, make no mistake that China IS an enormous market. Its refreshing to know that young and passionate Chinese growers have serious breeding programs and their work quietly shape the global tropical plant industry.
