The Ficus benghalensis, commonly known as the banyan tree, is a native tree of India and is considered one of the largest in the world with respect to its canopy coverage. The tree is impressive to behold, requiring time to be fully contemplated, as there is much more beyond what meets the eye.
They reproduce easily by seed or by cutting; it is common for them to spread from their original location through aerial roots, and this is how they begin to grow and thicken until they “independently” separate from the original trunk, thus managing to “migrate” sometimes over long distances.
