There is an explanation for almost everything, but the reproduction of the sexual organ in the vault of the Chapel of Saint John the Baptist has not yet been found.
The best justification could be the theme of representations that symbolize life and nature. In the figure in the center, inside a circle, a woman is represented and surrounded by images of the man's sexual organ, which could be interpreted as the symbol of fertilization and life.
The chapel is next to the castle, built in 1556 and the image is part of a diverse set of sgraffito representations placed in coffers on the ceiling. Such a large area of sgraffito for decorative purposes is not common in Portugal. The sgraffito technique was common in the Nisa region but in small formats.
The castle is classified as a National Monument and dates back to the 14th century and was built by the Prior of Crato, the father of Nuno Álvares Pereira. Álvaro Gonçalves Pereira lived here for a few years and alternated his residence with Crato.

Um castelo num declive e uma capela com uma imagem de um órgão sexual não é comum, mas é o que encontramos na Amieira do Tejo.
Para quase tudo há uma explicação, mas para a reprodução do órgão sexual na abóbada da Capela de São João Batista ainda não foi encontrada.
A melhor justificação poderá ser a temática das representações que simbolizam a vida e a natureza. Na figura ao centro, dentro de um círculo, está representada uma mulher e rodeada de imagens do órgão sexual do homem, o que poderá ser interpretado como o símbolo da fecundação e da vida.
A capela está junto do castelo, a construção é de 1556 e a imagem faz parte de um conjunto diversificado de representações em esgrafito colocadas em caixotões no teto. Uma área tão grande de esgrafitos para efeitos decorativos não é vulgar em Portugal. A técnica do esgrafito era usual na região de Nisa mas em pequenos formatos.
O castelo está classificado como Monumento Nacional é do século XIV e foi mandado construir pelo Prior do Crato, o pai de Nuno Álvares Pereira. Álvaro Gonçalves Pereira viveu aqui alguns anos e alternava a residência com o Crato.
