Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in New Delhi, India on Thursday, Dec. 4, where, in a departure from protocol, he was personally welcomed at the airport by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a hug and a dance performance.
The two-day visit is reportedly aimed at deepening defense ties amid heavy pressure by the United States on New Delhi to stop purchasing Russian oil as the war in Ukraine grinds on.
Senior ministers including Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, and a large business delegation arrived with Putin, and possible deals on fighter jets and air defense systems are expected to be discussed.
