The gleaming towers of Morgan Plaza stretched toward the sky, its golden windows reflecting the late afternoon sun. I adjusted my simple black blazer – expertly tailored but intentionally understated – as I approached the main entrance.
"Excuse me," a security guard stepped forward, his tone dismissive. "Service entrance is around back."
I glanced at his badge, noting the name. "Thank you, James. I'll keep that in mind."
My brother-in-law Marcus spotted me from the lobby, where he stood with a group of executives in identical expensive suits. His face twisted into that familiar smirk as he walked over.
"Emily! Didn't expect to see you here." He gestured toward the back of the building. "Staff only through the main entrance. You know the rules."
Of course I knew the rules. I'd written them last month, after acquiring the entire Morgan Plaza complex through a series of shell companies. But my family still thought I was a struggling office manager, taking night classes in real estate.
