Research on Sexual Assault in Utah: Utilizing Data to Increase Knowledge and Improve Practice

In this webinar, Dr. Julie Valentine of Brigham Young University discusses research that she and her colleagues did about sexual violence in Utah. Dr. Valentine's research is responsible for a significant amount of the progress that has been made in eliminating Utah's sexual violence kit backlog.

Anyone wishing to learn more about the research basis for eliminating Utah's sexual violence kit backlog is invited to take this certificate course. This one hour-long course will provide background and information to help participants understand the research being done on sexual violence in Utah.

About our presenter:

Dr. Julie Valentine is an Assistant Professor at Brigham Young University College of Nursing and a certified adult/adolescent sexual assault nurse with Wasatch Forensic Nurses. Her clinical specialty and research focus areas are sexual violence, intimate partner violence, violence against women, and criminal justice system response to sexual violence.

Dr. Valentine focuses on multidisciplinary, collaborative research studies uniting disciplines in sexual assault case reform to benefit victims and case processing. She served on the Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Reporting (SAFER) Act Working Group in the development of national best practice policies in sexual assault cases through the National Institute of Justice. In addition, Dr. Valentine served on the Brigham Young University Advisory Council on Campus Response to Sexual Misconduct which investigated Title IX implementation and recommended substantial policy and structural changes. She currently is a national consultant with RTI International on the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) Program.
