Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes when you swipe a card or scan a UPI QR code at a store? 🛍️📲
Let’s decode MDR – Merchant Discount Rate 👇
🧾 MDR is a small fee charged by banks/payment service providers to merchants for accepting digital payments – like Debit Cards, Credit Cards, or UPI.
But here’s the GOOD NEWS! 🙌
Since January 1, 2020, the Government has waived MDR on UPI and RuPay card transactions for small merchants under P2M (Person-to-Merchant) payments. 🆓
✅ So when you pay via UPI at your favourite tea shop or grocery store, no MDR is charged, and hence, no GST is applicable!
💼 The Government even compensates banks through an incentive scheme, so digital India keeps growing! 🇮🇳🚀
📌 Key takeaway:
No MDR = No GST = More Savings for Small Merchants 💡
