The well preserved Temple of Apollo Epicurius is located in the archaeological site of Vasses in the northeastern part of Messenia in the South Peloponnese. Because of its multitude of unusual features is the most studied of the ancient Greek temples, designed by Iktinos. The site is placed on the World Heritage List, presently covered in white tent in order to protect the ruins from the unstable soil, the cold climatic conditions in the area and the limestone material from which it is made.
