Ever wondered what a Princeton sounded like cranked? Well here we take a quick look at Fenders newest high end small tube amp the '64 Custom Hand Wired Princeton, giving it a go through all 10 volume levels using both inputs. Playing my Fender Custom Shop Telecaster (video about the guitar here: • Fender Custom Shop Telecaster Thinline NAM... ) on the bridge pickup, which is a HW Broadcaster pup.
Amp was just mic'd with an SM57 straight on, and I mixed in a tiny bit of the camera's microphone for a bit of space. No fancy colored mic pre's or anything, just the RAW amp sound!
It's a raunchy little guy that's for sure! Interesting there is no volume until about 2.2, and the difference in level between 2.5 and 3 is massive. After 3 it doesn't get a ton louder but instead just keeps exploding with more gain. Apartment tone is fantastic with this amp set between 2.5-2.7, any higher than that and it's too loud.
Stay tuned for more demo's as well as my honest review of the amp!
