The government has integrated an enhanced cancer treatment package into the Social Health Authority (SHA) scheme, a move aimed at reducing the financial burden on cancer patients across the country.
Principal Secretary for Public Health Mary Muthoni announced on 30 January 2026, that Sh800,000 has been allocated per cancer patient under the new arrangement, making specialized treatment more accessible to Kenyans.
"We have eight hundred thousand set aside for cancer patients and is now incorporated in SHA," PS Muthoni stated during a cancer screening camp in Ngiriambu Primary School, Kirinyaga County.
