Abusers often use the threat of immigration enforcement as a way to maintain power and control and to make victims less likely to seek protection. For this reason, it is important for advocates to understand how to: help immigrant survivors become aware of their rights; identify special immigration remedies for victims, including special VAWA provisions around confidentiality; and how to prepare enhanced safety plans for immigrant survivors that take into account immigration enforcement. This webinar will also discuss recent immigration policy developments and new enforcement measures that should be taken into consideration when assisting immigrant survivors with safety planning.
Speakers include:
Grace Huang Policy Director, Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence
Rosie Hidalgo, Director of Public Policy, Casa de Esperanza: National Latin@ Network Law Project
Leslye Orloff, Director, National Immigrant Women’s Advocacy Project (NIWAP), American University Washington College of Law
Archi Pyati, Chief of Policy and Programs, Tahirih Justice Center
Cecelia Friedman Levin, Senior Policy Counsel, ASISTA
