Malinche is the 6th highest peak in Mexico and the 23rd highest in North America.
Malinche was a Nahua woman who was sold to Hernan Cortes as a slave. She interpreted for him and ended up playing a pivotal role in the Spanish conquest, eventually even carrying Cortes’ first born son.

With views of Malinche ahead
0:12 We drove around Malinche to the north
Thru a beautiful forest
0:23 And arrived at Resort IMSS Malintzi at 3000m after driving for 80 minutes
We stayed in a cabin at Resort IMSS Malintzi
And had dinner in the resort restaurant
After breakfast, we left the cabin at 4:35 to start the climb
1:03 The climb starts in the forest at around 3000m
The trail was gradual and then steeper
Alpenglow arrived after about 90 minutes hiking
Still in the forest
1:31 We got our first view of Malinche at about 3760m after hiking 2 hours thru the forest
We had a refreshment break and then started again
The welcoming warming morning sun arrived
I looked back at forest and surrounding countryside

The trail goes up to the ridge
