A Live Air Crash Disaster Exercise was carried out on the eastern side of the runway. The exercise involved all of Gibraltar's emergency services. With traffic coming to a halt for over half an hour across Winston Churchill Avenue the public was urged to avoid the area.
RAF Station Commander Greg Smith briefed the press during the exercise, which involved a fire simulation and around 100 participants playing injured survivors.
