Try Barf & Lord’s Seat from Whinlatter | EASY LAKELAND WALK

Описание: Think the Lake District fells might be beyond you? This is the walk that could change your mind.

I headed out from Whinlatter with my son to climb Barf and Lord’s Seat — and this route is a brilliant example of how you can experience real fell summits and huge views without extreme terrain or exhausting gradients.

Yes, the car park is busy. But within 10 minutes, the crowds fade and you’re on beautifully maintained forest trails, climbing gently through woodland along the flank of Ullister Hill. It’s a confidence-building start that lets you settle into your stride.

The only slightly rougher ground comes on the southern approach to Barf, where the trail becomes rockier underfoot — just enough to feel like a proper fell walk, but nothing technical or exposed.

From the summit, the reward is enormous: Bassenthwaite Lake below, Skiddaw and the northern fells filling the skyline, and vast open skies overhead.

From there, it’s a friendly and enjoyable walk across to Lord’s Seat, where the view shifts north toward the Solway Plain and the hills of Dumfries and Galloway — a completely different landscape from the same outing.

This is a fantastic walk if you:
✔ Are building confidence on the fells
✔ Want big views without scary terrain
✔ Are reasonably fit and ready to step beyond forest-only walks
