Serendipity at Zegerplas parkrun! 🇳🇱 Pals 👫 Playgrounds 🛝 Pancakes 🍳

Описание: During our tour, Ewan realised that we would be back near Zegerplas parkrun on our return leg from Amsterdam, just in time to join the parkrun there. Unbeknownst to us, two friends from our running club, Mark and Emma, had also chosen Zegerplas as their parkrun for the weekend. Additionally, from the campsite that Ewan selected for us to stay at the night before, another parkrun tourism family were also heading to the same destination.

So, on a sunny Saturday morning, there we all were at Zegerplas, exchanging hellos and getting ready to run along the lake shore. We received a warm welcome from the volunteer team, then it was 3, 2, 1, Go! The route took us through some shady woodland before heading out along the lake. The sun was sparkling on the water, coots and geese were bobbing on the wavelets, and a lone canoe was gliding across the surface. At the far end of the run, we passed a beach, a pirate ship playground, an outdoor gym, and a waterski park, before greeting and thanking the turnaround marshal and heading back to the finish. A cheeky little repeat of the first section was required before passing through the impressive wooden finish arch. I was really struck by how many of the runners stayed around to cheer in every finisher.

With parkrun complete, it was time for breakfast. The pancake place didn’t start serving until 11, so we headed to the café next door for coffees, which were served with a cheeky little shot of liqueur and cream—apparently a local tradition, and who were we to break with tradition? Emma and Mark then headed off to catch their train back to their hotel, while Ewan and I stayed next door to enjoy some amazing pancakes and plenty of post-parkrun playground fun.

Then, for us, it was back on our bikes and on to Delft, continuing our tour of the Netherlands, or more to the point, the start of our journey home. It’s been a great way to top and tail our Netherlands adventure with a parkrun.
