Rescuing an injured, abandoned goat

Meet our NEW RESCUE 🚨

This gorgeous nanny goat was found abandoned in a small mountain town in the Alicante region a couple of weeks ago with a profound, maggot infested leg wound.

She was found by Alicia who tried to trace where she had come from. The ear tag placed her in a town over 5 hours drive away so it’s unknown how she got to be where she was. With the registered owner uninterested, Alicia began to seek a sanctuary where the goat could live the rest of her days in peace.

As we prepared an area for the goat, Alicia did an amazing job in getting immediate care for her and treating the leg wound. To begin with, the goat was weak and struggled to put weight on the hoof. Now she is much stronger and beginning to walk with weight on the hoof again.

The journey with the horse trailer took us 3 hours each way and we left early in the morning so we weren’t traveling in the midday heat. It was a long morning but eventually we got her back to the sanctuary where she is now in quarantine whilst we continue to treat the wound.

She has now been checked over by our vets, Pedro & María who have found the joint in the injured leg is fused.
She will continue in quarantine whilst she recuperates, giving her a chance to recuperate.
