VLOG TITLE : ADVENTURES IN PUERTO PRINCESA VLOG #27
Hello everyone! It's been a couple of weeks since our last Vlog upload. We've been preoccupied with family matters here in Canada. My father-in-law passed away and that was an important matter that we had to attend to.
This vlog is about our adventures way back in 2015 , when Greg arrived in the Philippines to meet me (his future bride, that time :) ). We went to Puerto Princesa and El Nido. But before reaching El Nido, we went to see Puerto Princesa which was the port of entry to the island of Palawan in the Philippines. To explore a beautiful city, one day was not enough. The place we stayed at, the Royal Oberoi was a beautiful and quiet resort. We booked there around last week of November 2015. It was not so busy during those times that we get to enjoy the amenities like the big clean pool mostly to ourselves. The room was clean , spacious, and with a nice view of the pool outside. We enjoyed our stay at the Royal Oberoi Resort Hotel.
The next day, we went to visit Baker's Hill. It is well known for its bakery products like hopia ( a kind of sweet bread with filling of either ube, monggo/mung beans and/or pork), bread, cakes , pizza . Baker's Hill is open to public without any entrance fees. Here you'll find a mini zoo with a pair of peacock as its main attraction. They also have children's playground, a theme park where you can have pictures taken with cartoon characters like Donald Duck, Bugs Bunny, Shrek and a life size figurine of Marlyn Monroe.
A restaurant can also be found in case you get hungry. Too bad we did not decide to eat because we had a heavy breakfast that day. The place was filled with a variety of plants too. Local flower petals floating on water were arranged in a colorful way in most corner of Baker's Hill. A little further in the innermost corner , you can find a viewing deck. Here we took photos and you'll see a view of the coastal areas of Honda bay. Friends and family , couples and kids can enjoy the park with all its amenities. Just make sure to keep it clean by throwing your trash in the provided bins.
The following day, before heading up to El Nido, we had to see the famous Puerto Princesa Underground River. It's an 8.2 km subterranean river filled with natural rock formation , stalactites and stalagmites which resemble vegetables like onion, garlic, corn, cacao , candle, and the holy family. Only 4.3 km of the entire length of the river can be traveled by boats and open to the public. A variety of species endemic to the place were bats, swallows, snakes , giant spiders. But only bats and swallows were the only ones we saw. Puerto Princesa underground river was listed both as a UNESCO World Heritage site and as one of the New 7 wonders of Nature in 2012. It's a once in a lifetime experience you shouldn't miss and include it in your bucket list.
Next will be our journey to El Nido, Palawan. One of the famous tourist attractions in the Philippines , known for its limestone karst formation, pristine waters, beautiful corals and natural beauty.
Thanks for watching. See you on our next vlog!
