Immunotherapy are medicines that try to engage the body's immune system to help kill cancer cells. For example, monoclonal antibodies help destroy the outer wall of a cancer cell by triggering an immune system response. Some monoclonal antibodies block the connection between a cancer cell and the proteins that promote cell growth, which also blocks cancer growth. In addition, there are immunotherapy treatments such as checkpoint inhibitors that are designed to provoke the body's immune system into recognizing cancer cells as foreign, and then engages the immune system to kill the cancer cells.
