Foster Parents Lose License Over Religious Beliefs

Shane and Jenn DeGross served as foster parents in Washington for 9 years. But when they tried to renew their foster care license in 2022, they were told they could not do so unless they agreed to promote the idea that boys can become girls and vice versa.

A federal court already enjoined Washington state from using a similar policy to exclude foster parents in a previous case, Blais v. Hunter. But Washington ignored this ruling and the Constitution by issuing new requirements that discriminate against people of faith in foster care. Alliance Defending Freedom filed a lawsuit on Shane and Jenn’s behalf to stand for the children in Washington’s system who just need a loving home.
