Right now, there are 53 volcanoes actively erupting on the planet. This week, Mount Pinatubo unexpectedly erupted, sending a plume of material 14,300 meters or 44,000 feet into the atmosphere. Meanwhile in Iceland, uplift has been ongoing around the Geldingadalir volcano, suggesting that more similarly sized eruptions are likely in the future. On the island of Iwo Jima in Japan, a series of small phreatic eruptions occurred. Finally, in Indonesia, a new submarine vent emerged at the Iliwerung volcano. This video will discuss these volcano related news stories, as told and analyzed by a volcanologist.
