I’ll be your guide and across this makeshift walkthrough we shall complete the full game from start to finish, one campaign at a time, on the hardest setting. So join me as we playthrough this modern RTS and journey through medieval history. Let’s play Age of Empires 4 for PC!

Welcome to Age of Empires IV, the latest in the ever successful AoE series. Real time strategy games aren’t as popular as they once were, and with that fewer games are being released in the genre, but AoE4 is a down-to-earth proper strategy game. Large scale battles await across multiple campaigns and multiple continents, using a vast array of different units. The battles themselves boast an epic intensity as they are faithful replications of real world battles that occurred, the very first mission in fact takes place at the battle of Hastings. Attention to detail is shown where possible and key historical points that lead up to such battles are explained through documentary-style cinematics. Typically I’d comment on the game’s storyline, but the story here is the greatest one of all; history itself.

Single player has multiple campaigns to play through, each focused on a different faction’s battles throughout history. There’s a lot of content here so sit back and settle in. There’s a delicate balance between missions that involve large armies colliding, and with base-building missions that task the player with producing their own army to achieve their goals. It’s good variety and Age of Empires 4 handles both style excellently. We will be playing through the campaign on Hard difficulty, the hardest setting available, and so we will undoubtedly have to field a wide range of tactics to get through the trials that await us!

Age of Empires IV’s multiplayer is perhaps its main draw, and it also doesn’t disappoint. With 8 factions to play as, and yet more on the way, the variety is incredible. The different races are fairly distinct as well, each with their own unique builds and units, strengths and advantages. Exploring the multiplayer landscape is going to be an exciting journey in of itself but one thing at a time, we’ve got a single player mode to complete first. Join me, we shall experience this game and learn a bit of history together, and have a great time doing so.
