In our previous video, we learnt about what is Sperm DNA Fragmentation? As we discussed sperm is a specialized cell with a very compact DNA and it undergoes of oxidative stress. Due to which oxidative induced DNA damage to the sperm is very common. DNA Fragmentation is extremely beneficial to do in males experiencing unexplained infertility. If the sperm DFI is less than 20% in Indian men then it is normal which means 20% of sperms can have damaged DNA so the male can still conceive naturally, but sperm DFI is more than 20% then that means some correction needs to be done.

One of the safest methodologies of correcting DNA fragmentation for any male partner is by doing lifestyle changes such as avoiding smoking and drinking. if someone is working in a very stressful working environment, they should practise meditation or relaxation exercises. The patient can also take some cold messages like ice packs on testes in order to reduce the fragmentation index. The patient can do multiple ejaculations in order to reduce the fragmentation index. All these techniques can be easily done and are the techniques which actually benefit.

2.Treating sperm damage
Sometimes doctors may prescribe certain drugs or medical therapy which is antioxidant therapy as DNA fragmentation happens due to oxidative stress. This antioxidant therapy would not have a direct effect on sperm rather it affects seminal fluid. Doctors are unsure of how this antioxidant therapy will benefit patient with high DNA fragmentation index.

How to repair Sperm DNA damage naturally
In case the patient follows a healthy lifestyle and undergoes oxidative therapy it may benefit them. The DNA fragmentation index will go down below 20% or become normal, in that situation lot of male patients are able to conceive after 4-6 months and are able to have a child without any assistance, but even after doing all this if the patients DNA fragmentation index is more than 20% than this patients will be benefitted with more with ICSI.

The common query which patients have is if a patient is having high sperm DNA fragmentation and if they are able to conceive through natural or using IUI, then would there be any problem? The answer to this is, there might be an increase of miscarriage or having an increased risk of having prolonged infertility.
